Their locations varied, from the lively streets of Italy and the historic lanes of Lebanon, to the sunny beaches of Tunisia, the bustling squares of Morocco, the serene canals of the Netherlands, and the snowy forests of Sweden.
Yet, despite their geographical differences, they shared a common purpose: exploring the relationship between digital progression and tradition. A young woman from Italy began, reminiscing about her grandmother sharing stories of their hometown.
Today, she was using a blog to share these tales, intertwining age-old narratives with modern-day anecdotes. The participant from Lebanon nodded in agreement, sharing his project of creating a digital archive that preserved the traditional music of his region.
What once was limited to local gatherings was now being shared with the world, thanks to technology. From Tunisia, a storyteller spoke of using augmented reality to enhance the tales of ancient ruins and historical landmarks, allowing tourists a deep dive into the past while standing firmly in the present. Morocco’s representative spoke of online platforms giving artisans a new lease on life, allowing their handcrafted goods to find homes across the globe. While the craft remained traditional, the means of business had evolved.
The Dutch participant brought up the role of technology in education, explaining how digital platforms were making traditional subjects more engaging, bridging the gap between past knowledge and present methods. Lastly, from the forests of Sweden, a voice spoke about using technology to capture and share the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights, blending nature’s age-old spectacle with the modern reach of social media.
